An interactive installation where live WFi signal data is continuously mapped to Peltier thermoelectric cooling, driving real time temperature shifts on a metal “ground” surface that manifest as condensation, frost, and melt cycles.




Net-Climate-Infrastructure is an early experimental version of Cloud Machine. It translates network data into a local climate mechanism by continuously cooling a constructed “surface” in real space. A metal plate and a small terrain of sand, water, and stones form a physical ground layer that can be thermally rewritten.

The system continuously reads nearby WiFi signals, including strength, density, and fluctuation, and converts them into real time control of Peltier thermoelectric cooling. As network conditions shift, cooling power shifts with them, changing surface temperature and producing visible phase events such as condensation, frost formation, melting, and drifting moisture traces. Data does not remain a number on a screen. It becomes a material process that inscribes itself on the surface through heat exchange, forming a repeating weather loop of network input, cooling command, phase change, and residual trace.

By insisting on the simple fact that it keeps cooling a piece of “ground,” the work argues that cloud computing is not immaterial. It depends on heavy, energy intensive infrastructures of computation, power, and cooling. Everyday connectivity becomes a measurable cost in temperature, electricity, and material transformation, revealing how networked systems quietly reshape the ground conditions of the world we live on.
